Fergie will fully recover

MANCHESTER. — Manchester United are “confident” Sir Alex Ferguson will make a full recovery after under surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

Ferguson is in intensive care in a Salford hospital after collapsing at home last weekend and having emergency surgery.

Jose Mourinho met the press yesterday afternoon ahead of United’s trip to West Ham tonight.

The Portguese was reluctant to talk at length about Ferguson out of respect to his family, but did say United are “positive” about the 76-year-old making a full recovery.

Mourinho said: “It’s private. His family ask for privacy and that’s what I’m going to respect.”

Asked if Sir Alex’s condition has cast a cloud over the club, he added: “We are positive, we are very, very positive. We are confident.”

And when quizzed if Man United’s mood against West Ham would be affected, Mourinho said: “No – I can only think that if there is any relation it is a positive relation.”

Michael Ca rrick will captain United in his final match at Old Trafford against Watford on Sunday.

Carrick is hanging up his boots at the end the season and will join Mourinho’s coaching staff.

And the boss said: “He will start the last match, at Old Trafford. For the last match of the Premier League season, as our captain in front of our fans, he will start the match against Watford.

“The most important quality is to be a man, M-A-N, capitals, a proper man.

“Football is not full of them – and not just football, society is not full of them, so when you find one of them you have to value them and you have to keep them.

“The club had him for great many years playing football and now when his body says ‘enough’, the club and myself will want to keep the man. — The Daily Star.
