Fidelity embarks on $7,4bn housing project

In an interview the managing director of the company, Mr Simon Chapereka said the housing project was one of the major  investments earmarked by the company  during 2012.

“We have embarked on a major housing project involving development and servicing of 6 000 stands in Harare at the moment and we hope to do that in other cities such as  Bulawayo.

“We purchased stands last week and we have already made the payment as we wait for the starting of the major project,” he said.

He said their intention was to see to it that there was housing development in the country to cater for the local populace.

“Many people need accommodation and by servicing and constructing many houses, we will be easing the problem hence    developing our nation as well,” Mr Chapereka said.

He said they were now in the process of mobilising funds for development of the stands so that they start servicing as soon as possible.

“We would also want to see which other projects we could attach to this project then we pursue them at the same time.

“Despite economic challenges the country is faced with, we are trying to do whatever we can to help in the development of the   economy.”

At the moment, Fidelity Life is also working on scaling up its operations in Zvishavane and Bulawayo by way of increased staffing and expanding its operations to meet the market demands.

“We upgraded our staffing and the company is in the process of developing our Zvishavane branch which we had scaled down when Shabanie mine was closed.

“We have been able to provide timely service to our clients in those regions when it was needed and we are intending to keep doing that which is the reason why we have decided to scale up our operations in the places,” he said.

He said they were also upgrading staff in Bulawayo as the customer base was picking up also, hence the need for quality service delivery.

Mr Chapereka said they were continuing their branch rollout plan so as to recover the lost ground.
“We are continuing our branch rollout plan so as to recover the lost ground, however the expansion will be guided by the economic recovery activity in those particular areas or regions,” he said.
