FIFA have announced the completion of an internal investigation following the allegations of criminal misconduct, bribery and corruption in world football.
The world football governing body undertook the investigation in June 2015 after Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) and the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) opened charges against top administrators, including former president Sepp Blatter.
Following lengthy reviews and numerous key witness interviews, Fifa have since compiled and handed over their findings to the OAG, and it will also be made available to the DOJ.
“Fifa committed to conducting a thorough and comprehensive investigation of the facts so we could hold wrongdoers within football accountable and co-operate with the authorities,” said Fifa president Gianni Infantino in a statement released on Friday.
“We have now completed that investigation and handed the evidence over to the authorities, who will continue to pursue those who enriched themselves and abused their positions of trust in football.
“Fifa will now return its focus to the game, for fans and players throughout the world.”
Due to the ongoing investigations by Swiss and US authorities, Fifa said it was unable to publicly release it’s findings or comment thereon.
The findings, though, have been used to make specific changes to Fifa’s governance, compliance and finance functions, with a detailed report summarising these changes to be issued at the end of April.
