FIFA will not release development funds to ZIFA, which were meant to be disbursed today, until the local football governing body resolves issues related to the dissolution of the association.
The world football governing body advised the country’s football leaders yesterday that the FAP Funds, which are released annually and meant for development, will be put on hold until a clear picture emerges as to what is happening in the game’s leadership corridors.
The communication was directed to ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa.
Sources last night told The Herald that FIFA had advised ZIFA that funds will not be released until the issue of the dissolution of the association had been concluded.
“The letter from FIFA is clear that the FAP Funds, which are meant for development, will be put on hold until our superiors in Zurich know which is the organisation that is now running football in this country and the dissolution of ZIFA is concluded,” said the sources.
“The letter was written to the leader of ZIFA, Chiyangwa, by FIFA and the tranche of funds was supposed to be released on June 29, which is tomorrow (today).
“In that communication FIFA are saying that they want to see where this dissolution process ends and they want to know which accounts should be used, the old ZIFA bank accounts, or the new NAFAZ bank accounts.
“That is the situation on the ground right now.”
