THE trial of Edwin Mhaka (19), who is accused of leaking nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend Felisha Muzeya, failed to kick off at the Harare Magistrates Court yesterday as the State is still to receive a cyber report on the matter.
Muzeya (aka Fifi), whose pictures have gone viral on social media, is the daughter to socialite Mai TT (Felistas Murata).
Prosecutor Ms Nomsa Kangara sought a trial postponement saying there was a need for a cyber report relating to Muzeya’s phone, which was handed over to police on May 2, 2024.
Mhaka’s lawyer, Mr Admire Rubaya, expressed displeasure at the delay saying he intended to file an application for Mhaka’s removal from remand if the State gave another excuse.
The court ordered that trial should proceed on June 5.
Mhaka is appearing before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo charged with transmitting intimate images without the owner’s consent.
The State alleges that Muzeya (18) and Mhaka met through social media platform, Instagram, and the two began online dating in 2020.
They later met physically and continued with the relationship until they broke up in April 2022, when they had a misunderstanding.
During the course of their relationship, Muzeya would occasionally send her nude pictures to Mhaka.
The State alleges that soon after the break up, Mhaka started sending text messages threatening to expose the nude pictures on social media platforms if she cut ties with him.
The text messages prompted Muzeya to keep him as a close friend.
On March 18 last year, Muzeya started dating another man and Mhaka found out.
He was not happy with this and started sending Muzeya’s new boyfriend some disparaging messages.
On April 7 at around 9pm, Muzeya was told by her sister, Tanatswa Mutikani, that her nude pictures were trending on social media.
On seeing them, she confirmed they were hers but had sent them to Mhaka only.
