Zyla Storm, a 15-year-old singer who “daydreams” of being a star and is being hailed as a rare talent, left Bulawayo stunned recently after singing with the “voice of an angel”.

The Lionsgate Private School scholar, (real name Zinhle Ndlovu) shared the stage with top South African musician Ami Faku who was headlining a human trafficking awareness dinner, organised by Impala Events and Conference Centre on October 7.

After her debut live performance, Zyla Storm left the crowd awed and was regarded as one of, if not the best, talent on the show after performing her pop single, SOS which was released on the same day.

With her music gravitating between Indie pop and rock, the rising singer is expected to release her second single, Nocturnal on November 4 after wowing music fans with her voice as she took on the crowds who were waiting for Ami Faku to get on stage.

Speaking to Chronicle Showbiz, Zyla Storm said: “I’m Zyla Storm and I’m 15 years old. I love to sing and if this works out for me, I hope I’ll be able to do as well as my favourite superstars like Johnny Orlando, Ava Max and Willow Smith!

“I walk and sing, maybe sometimes daydream while in Maths class. I wonder if in five years’ time I could be an actual star singing in front of millions of people.”
The young lady who sings like an angel started singing six years ago, but only developed an interest in a possible professional career in 2020 at the height of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

“Well, it has been a slow start as I was focusing more on the school side and felt I was still young to venture into the industry,” she revealed.

“I struggled at first as I was still learning to articulate myself and make the producer understand my music. Luckily for me, Cornelius (Maponga) understood me and we have a great working relationship,” she said.
Zyla Storm is working on her debut seven-track album titled Angry Love which is expected to drop in December.

Her mother, Sisa had this to say: “Well, it was shocking for all of us because she’s generally reserved, but we’ve embraced her music and she has all the support. I think her little brother who is six is the biggest fan.

“I’m a very practical parent and I realised that music is her space. I mean she writes, composes, and is at her happiest when singing. I’m just making sure she has all the necessary resources and is exposed to the right people.”

For all her love of music, Zyla Storm seems keen on finding her own place in this world and making her mark as an accomplished artiste.
