A FIGTREE family’s village had their homestead burnt down as they slept after one of the family members was wrongfully perceived to be politically active and harbouring opposition party members.
Priscilla Moyo, from Mafela village in Figtree reportedly leads community youth initiatives where she goes around conducting trainings on various empowerment projects.
However, according to sources, her activities attracted the wrath of the ruling Zanu-PF party supporters who accused her of convening illegal meetings, campaign for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change.
On the fateful night the family had their hut burnt down at night while they slept together with their 97-year-old grandmother, fortunately they all managed to escape.
“When the hut was burnt down there was Priscilla, his son, Sandile Sibanda, her sister, Precious Moyo and their grandmother Mpompolwane Khumalo. This all happened after a long period where Priscilla has been subject to all sorts of threats for her activities although she had insisted that all she was doing was to train youths on these business empowerment projects.
“The way the hut was burnt down it was clear that these people wanted them to die inside, if it was not for their quick reaction, we could be talking of something very tragic,” said a fellow villager who declined to be named.

A youth who has benefited from some of the projects embarked on by Priscilla revealed that they were no at a great loss as she had since gone into hiding fearing that whoever burnt down their homestead could re-attack her.
“For some of us Priscilla gave us an opportunity which the government failed to avail to us. It was not about politics but genuine empowerment. I specialised in lotions and perfume making and it was enabling me to feed my family.
“Right, now after the attack, Priscilla has seemingly disappeared and we do not know where we will get anyone who would assist us as she did,” said the youth.
