Zimbabwe-born filmmaker and theatre practitioner Chipo Chang is turning to home-grown talent as she prepares to cast a new film project, with an open audition set for August 31 at Theatre in the Park in Harare.
Chang, who is producing and co-directing the project, is looking for 17 actors to bring the production’s characters to life. The casting call is open to both male and female performers, with roles ranging from children as young as six to adults in their late 60s.
Announcing the casting call, Chang said she was excited to begin the search for talent and encouraged people in Zimbabwe to come forward and take part in the open auditions.

The auditions present an opportunity for both experienced performers and aspiring actors to showcase their abilities and potentially secure roles in the production.
The wide age range required also opens the door for talent from different generations, from young children taking their first steps into acting to seasoned performers in their 60s.
Chang has built a career spanning theatre and film, with her work often reflecting an interest in Zimbabwean stories, history, identity and social issues.
She has been involved in productions that have connected Zimbabwean experiences with international audiences, establishing herself as a creative practitioner with experience across different areas of the performing arts.
Chipo Chung is a Zimbabwean stage and screen actress whose career spans theatre, film and television.
Trained at Yale University and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, she has built an international profile through roles in productions such as Sunshine, In the Loop, Doctor Who, Camelot, Fortitude, A.D. The Bible Continues, Into the Badlands, His Dark Materials, Silo and Black Cake.
Her theatre credits include Hamlet, The Overwhelming, Talking to Terrorists, Fallujah, Phèdre, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Dido, Queen of Carthage.
Beyond acting, Chung has also been involved in theatre for social change, including work supporting women’s rights and community dialogue in Zimbabwe and Kenya.
