THOMPSON Muzondiwa, popularly known as Slimie Baba Juju, a renowned filmmaker from Kwekwe, has announced plans to establish a film academy in his hometown.
He says he wants to nurture young talent, regardless of their geographical location, as he understands the hurdles that aspiring filmmakers face in the industry.
“We have noticed that it is really difficult to make it in the industry without knowledge of this industry,” he said.
“It requires one to have information and some skills which can only come from renowned colleagues in the industry.
“In my journey, I have faced challenges like financing equipment and a lack of knowledge on how to refine my work.
“However, I learned editing skills using online platforms like Facebook, YouTube and sometimes I attended some lessons.”
Driven by his experiences and passion, Slimie Baba Juju is determined to make a change.
“Starting from scratch is not easy, I remember I used to starve my family trying to raise money to fund my projects,” he said.
“The film academy will help aspiring filmmakers to acquire knowledge, skills and industry insights.
“By establishing this institution in my hometown, I am hoping to create opportunities for young talent to thrive in the film industry.”
He added:
“Our aim next year is to release at least one film per month so that we can raise money to make the academy project a success.
“As Magtom Media, we are trying to work with other actors from the capital and we have an upcoming project with DJ Shughetta and I am sure it will enable us to have money for our dream to have an academy.”
