The Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a supportive economic environment that unlocks the potential of young people, as the nation marks National Youth Day today.
In a statement commemorating the day, the Ministry said empowering youths remains central to the country’s development agenda and the attainment of Vision 2030.
“On this important day, we recognise and celebrate the vital role played by Zimbabwe’s youth in shaping the country’s economic and social future. With young people constituting approximately 68% of the national population, they are not only the heartbeat of the nation, but a decisive force for productivity, innovation and long-term economic transformation.”
The Ministry said it continues to implement policies and programmes designed to promote youth-led economic growth through sound fiscal management and inclusive development strategies.
“The Ministry remains committed to creating a supportive economic environment that unlocks youth potential. Through sound fiscal policy, investment promotion, financial inclusion initiatives, and targeted support for entrepreneurship and skills development, the Ministry continues to lay the foundation for youth-led economic growth. These efforts are central to the achievement of Vision 2030.”
The Ministry added that investing in young people today guarantees sustainable economic transformation in the future.
“We salute the energy, innovation, and ambition of Zimbabwe’s youth and encourage them to remain bold, disciplined, and committed to nation-building. By investing in young people today, we secure a stronger, more resilient economy for tomorrow. Happy National Youth Day!”
The annual Youth Day holiday honours the legacy of the late former President Robert Mugabe, who was born on February 21, 1924.
President Mnangagwa is today expected to preside over this year’s National Youth Day commemorations, which are being held under the theme “Youth Agenda for Transformation”.
More than 30 000 youths are expected to attend the event, alongside representatives from regional youth councils, foreign delegates and stakeholders from Government, civil society and the private sector.
The commemorations provide a platform to reflect on the progress made in mainstreaming youth participation in the economy, while reinforcing the call for greater inclusion, innovation and productivity among the country’s young people as Zimbabwe marches towards Vision 2030.
