Banking stocks drove home the biggest gains in the session with the financials index closing in at 16,039.44 after gaining 4.62 percent. The gains left the medium cap index with a positive close of 1.86 percent leaving the All Share Index up 0.73 percent.
The gains were propelled by NMB that saw its stock price rise by 15.80 percent to close the session at $13.8889, as FBC Bank also recorded significant gains with a daily gain of 14.58 percent to close the day at $41.00.
First Capital Bank, which posted fairly good financial results, closed with a stock price of $5.8058, after gaining a massive 14.10 percent.
Other gains were in Tanganda which rose by $10.6853 to close at $106.7000, as Simbisa added $8.9194 to close at $264.7164. Significant gains were also reported in Innscor which was $3.6385 higher at $310.2000 and AXIA which traded $1.9688 firmer at $80.0938
Old Mutual Top Ten ETF recovered by 1.05 percent to close at $8.4600 as other derivatives closed the day in the negative. MORGAN & CO MULTI-SECTOR ETF lost $0.0418 to $14.7921 and the DATVEST MODIFIED CONSUMER STAPLES ETF decreased by $0.0139 to close the session at $1.8842.
As for commodities, Gold was up 0.42 percent in the session to close the day at US$1,932.70 per ounce representing a 5.75 percent year to date gain. Crude Oil was back above the U$100.00 per barrel psychological mark as it gained 3.01 percent to close at US$107.53 and a year to date gain of 37.89 percent.
