Fire destroys bar property worth $1m

AN inferno razed a Penhalonga bar and destroyed property worth more than $1 million following an electric fault last Saturday.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the incident which happened at Pachedu Bar, saying no injuries were recorded.

“The bar’s security guard, Anyway Anthony (35) was on duty when he heard an explosion from the bar around 3am. He checked and discovered that there was fire which was coming from the bar’s counter. He switched off the bar’s electricity.

“Police and Zesa Mutare were alerted and attended the scene. The bar is owned by Mutasa Rural District Council and run by Zvichauya Zvikomborero. The fire destroyed five refrigerators and other goods with an approximate value of $1m,” said Inspector Chananda.
