A 78-year-old-old woman was burnt to death while using fire to clear her garden of grass on Saturday.

Gogo Rutsvara of Kondo Village, Gutu, Mupandawana, was with her two children when tragedy struck.

She failed to escape the raging fire after it went out of control.

She did not scream and her two children, who were on the opposite side, only discovered that she had been burnt to death afterwards.

“She did not make a sound or cry,” said a relative.

“When we got to the garden, we went to clear different sides. When we realised that the fire was out of control, we ran to check up on gogo, but it was too late, as she had already been burnt to death.

“She was trapped in the centre of the garden and there was no way out.”
