A FAMILY from Nketa 8 suburb in Bulawayo is appealing for help to rebuild its house which was destroyed by fire three weeks ago.
The owner, Samukele Banda and his son Rashid Banda were hospitalised after sustaining minor burns. They were later discharged.
Family members are now staying with neighbours as the gutted house is not fit for human habitation.
Banda told The Chronicle that she was appealing for help to rebuild her house which was destroyed in a fire suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.
She said she was unemployed and could not afford the rebuilding costs, but could not keep on depending on neighbours.
“We lost everything from the plates, doors, stoves, sofas among other things. I’ve no means of raising money to repair the house. I’m unemployed. Everything was gutted by the fire. At the moment we’re staying in our neighbour’s house. I’m therefore appealing for assistance in both cash and kind to refurbish the house,” said Banda.

The councillor for the area, Mzamo Dube, said many residents were losing property due to suspected electric faults.
“Over and over again we’re receiving cases of houses catching fire because of electric faults. Residents report electrical faults but Zesa delays in attending to them until we’ve such disasters,” said Clr Dube.
He called on members of the public to assist the Banda family saying they have nowhere to start from.
“They’ve lost everything. They don’t even have food, blankets and a roof to put their heads under. I call on residents and other members of the public to assist them as such a thing can happen to anyone,” he said.
