Firm acquires disaster management ambulances

A local firm, Discovery Ambulance Services, has taken delivery of two disaster management ambulances that can convey five people to the nearest health facility.

The company’s chief executive officer and founder, Mr David Munowenyu, says he was happy to fulfil the promise he made to President Mnangagwa when he met him late last year.

He said he was determined to see to fruition his vision of revamping the emergency medical sector by offering affordable but world-class services.

“I met President Mnangagwa to congratulate him after winning last year’s election.

“I was based in South Africa then and was looking for business opportunities in the country . . . I told him that I could invest in hundreds of ambulances that will help the whole country,” he said.

“My first job was a sales representative for Netcare in South Africa. It moulded my dream for a better Zimbabwe that has a thriving healthcare system.

“This is my contribution to the country and my vision is to ensure that the whole of Zimbabwe has world class, efficient and quick response ambulances.”

Discovery Ambulance Services on Friday gave basic first aid training to 20 pupils with special needs at Jairos Jiri Centre in Bulawayo for free.

Hundreds of youths were also trained at ZANU PF offices at Dave’s Hall in Bulawayo ahead of the ruling party’s national conference.

They all received certificates.

President Mnangagwa’s son Collins graced the event and sponsored 20 youths to start a career as ambulance technicians.

“We believe that every second counts, every life matters, so we want to train everyone to have basic first aid training so that your next of kin can be your first responder,” added Mr Munowenyu.

“We are offering emergency services at world-class standards. Our emergency rescue vehicles are manned by highly skilled staff.

“Their mission is to stabilise a patient before taking them to the hospital or clinic. The ambulances are kitted with pharmaceuticals, as well as life-saving machines.”

Last month, the emergency services provider opened a training academy.
