Kilpa chief executive Mr Pascal Kwaramba said that they had made a commitment to supply the city with bins worth US$150 000 every year until 2016.
“We are playing our part in the city’s vision of achieving world class status, and we believe this should be by 2016,” said Mr Kwaramba.
Harare Mayor Muchadeyi Masunda hailed the donation by Kilpa saying it would go a long way in maintaining cleanliness of the city.
“It is everyone’s responsibility to keep the city clean and I urge other companies to emulate the noble gesture by Kilpa,” said Mr Masunda.
He said the problem of litter had become a cause for concern in Harare, which has a population of two million residents besides daily visitors from other towns.
Mr Masunda said that they had targeted achieving world class city status by 2025, but would welcome Kilpa’s challenge of targeting 2016.
Harare town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi promised that the donation by Kilpa would not go in vain.
