A LOCAL real estate company, West Property Zimbabwe, has been given the green light to begin developing the US$280 million Hills Golf Estate at Warren Hills, Harare, after successfully securing a High Court order to evict a previous tenant.
The project, which will also include construction of residential flats and a luxury hotel, is one of the three major developments set to be undertaken by the company this year.
West Property is presently finalising development of the Mall of Zimbabwe and phase two of Pomona City, while work on block four residential flats at Millennium Heights Estate is set to commence next month.
Cumulatively, all the three projects are estimated to be worth US$1 billion.
In a statement, the company’s chief executive, Mr Kenneth Sharpe, said golf course designer Mr Peter Matkovich will be in the country soon.
“We managed to successfully achieve the eviction of the previous tenant under court case HC 6212/20 and court order number HH 0414385,” he said.
“We now await City of Harare to accede to the recommendation to allow the development to proceed. This paves the way for our team from South Africa, led by globally respected golf course designer (Mr) Peter Matkovich, to come to Harare in the next quarter and commence work on site.
“The project upgrade for the new design will take 22 months to complete the brand-new PGA Championship standard golf course that will have some exciting new features.”
He said the project will be the first of its kind in Zimbabwe.
“The infrastructure and servicing will commence within the next six months and run in conjunction with the golf course upgrade.
“This is a US$280 million project which, in our view, is a big confidence affirmation on Zimbabwe as an investment destination.
“This would be the first premium-branded luxury residence attached to a five-star hotel in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
Work on two other major property developments, said Mr Sharpe, will commence imminently.
“Secondly, on the cards for finalising in 2023 are the two massive projects, being the Mall of Zimbabwe and Pomona City phase two, which we have made significant developments on in the last few months and, accordingly, we will be making announcements soon.
“Thirdly, we at West Property Zimbabwe, have been busy working over the past months on a new initiative at our company that will enable the public to benefit from our continued success.
“Many have seen the speed at which we have created Millennium Heights Estate, a development of 1 000 apartments where we have opened blocks one and two.
“We have already sold 85 percent on block three and commencing sales for block four next month. We have achieved compliance for phase 1A Pomona City, allowing stand owners to commence construction of their homes.”
Mr Sharpe said his company’s investments were a show of confidence in Zimbabwe.
