Laksem, represented by its director Elizabeth Nyathi was not formally charged when the matter was brought before Harare regional magistrate Mr Morgan Nemadire on Thursday.
Mr Nemadire postponed the case to August 22 for trial.
Arda Seeds was represented by its administrative manager Killian Marufu.
Prosecutor Mr Michael Reza alleged that during the 2010 Harare Agricultural Show, Laksem officials went to Arda’s stand and gathered that Arda was keen on having a sales agent in Mutare.
Since Nyathi was based in Mutare and operating The Pass Supperete Shop, she went to Arda’s offices in Borrowdale on August 16 last year and solicited to sell their seeds on their behalf, it is alleged.
The two parties entered into an agreement.
The terms and conditions of the agreement were that Nyathi would be supplied with seed that she would sell on behalf of Arda and remit the proceeds of sale within 14 days.
It is alleged that from August 22 to September 14 last year Nyathi collected 250 tonnes of seed, which she sold and did not remit any money to Arda.
Arda officials went to Mutare and only managed to recover 30 tonnes of seed valued at US$49 040.
The total value of maize seed taken by Nyathi is US$327 500.
