First-ever Matabeleland South tobacco auction opens

THE first ever Naturally Cured Virginia (NCV) tobacco auction floor hasopened in Marula, Mangwe district in Matabeleland South Province.

 

Tobacco farmers started selling their tobacco at the Bitumen World Training Centre in Marula on Thursday morning.

As of Thursday, scores of local farmers had brought 260 bales of tobacco, averaging 80 kilogrammes each.

The pioneer commercial tobacco farming project is in its second season and started with just 17 local villagers and has grown to over 160 farmers both in Mangwe and Bulilima Districts.

The first ever tobacco auction floor was opened by the Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Vangelis Haritatos.
