First Ladies tour draws crowds at stands

Amai Mugabe was accompanied by sons Robert and Chatunga and the Small and Medium Enterprises and Co-operative Development Minister Sithembiso Nyoni.

The First Ladies attracted a crowd, which wanted to catch a glimpse of them, while at some stands they were given gifts.

Those with cameras had to be constantly moved out of the way as they followed them trying to shoot some pictures of the Presidents’ wives.

The First Ladies’ first port of call was the ZimTrade stand in Hall 4 where they briefly discussed with the organisation’s officials before proceeding to the Embassy of Kenya and the Embassy of Indonesia.

Amai Mugabe met the Indonesian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Eddy Poerwana and his wife.

The two First Ladies were impressed with the Indonesian products and received special scarves from Ambassador Poerwana’s wife.

Ambassador Poerwana said he was happy to see Amai Mugabe and commended the work she was doing to provide shelter and food for children living with disabilities and the needy in the country.

He pledged to support Amai Mugabe in her endeavours to assist the vulnerable groups of society.

The First Ladies also visited the South African stand, the Embassy of Zambia and Triple Play Communications.

They proceeded to Hall 5, where they visited the Vitafoam stand, KDV Bedding and The Bed Shop.

In Hall 3 the first ladies visited the University of Zimbabwe stand where Amai Mugabe admired a cassava project which is being run by a research institution at the university to assist farmers in drought prone areas.

She said it was a good initiative for the country.

Amai Mugabe also discussed with the officials at the Women’s University in Africa and commended them for a job well done in promoting women’s education.

She urged them to keep up the good work and promised to advertise their programmes to women willing to take up degree programmes.

The two First Ladies also visited the Transtrade International stand and proceeded to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority where the public relations officer, Ms Caroline Washaya Moyo briefed them on how the authority operates.

At the Zambia Development Agency, the First Ladies admired the handicraft products which were being exhibited by Kandiana Handicraft.

They also visited the Mozambican and the Malawian stands and signed visitors’ books before proceeding to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) stand.

An official at the GMB explained to them the organisation’s functions and projects. They were also showed silos being constructed in Norton, which were 90 percent complete.
