FIRST Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa over the weekend donated foodstuffs to inmates at the Wha Wha Young Offenders facility.
The facility is home to about 240 juveniles as young as 14 convicted for committing offences such as rape, sodomy, robbery and even murder.
The young offenders received sugar, maize-meal, cooking oil and salt sourced by Compassionate Family Care — an arm under Ministry of Peter Apostolic Church of Christ from Gweru on behalf of the First Lady.
Handing over the donation on behalf of the First Lady, Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Owen Ncube said the First Lady has been reaching out to the underprivileged across the country.
“It is my pleasure that I stand before you on behalf of the First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa reaching out to the less-privileged here at Wha Wha Prisons (Young Offenders Facility) through donating food stuffs. She has been reaching out to different people around the country so as to revive lost hope to those in need,” he said.
Minister Ncube said he was proud of the good deed that the First Lady, together with the Compassionate Family Care has done towards the young offenders at the institution.
“I would like to express my most sincere thanks and robust appreciation to her and the Compassionate Family Care as they continue to champion social development task to improve living stands for the citizens,” he said.
Minister Ncube also donated 50 bags of cement which he said should go towards the rehabilitation of the facility.
