In the spirit of Christmas, First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Angel of Hope Foundation last week gave an assortment of foodstuffs and toiletries to children and old people’s homes, giving them a reason to smile this festive season. A number of selected boarding schools also benefited from the First Lady’s kind gesture.

Amai Mnangagwa cares for the welfare of the people of Zimbabwe, particularly the underprivileged and her foundation has been playing a leading role in helping them.
Giving is an in-born trait in her and she does it effortlessly.

A social worker at Runyararo Children’s Home in Marlborough, Harare, Mrs Precious Manyanga was full of praise for the First Lady.

“We could not believe our eyes when we saw the consignment,” she said.
“It is something we did not expect and we are so grateful that our mother spared a thought for us. God bless you Amai. Times are just difficult these days and we thank her for coming to assist.”

Runyararo Children’s Home has 11 children under its care and its sister home in Domboshava looks after 15 others.
Mr Anesu Chinyowa, an administrator at Sheary Cripps Children’s Home, could not hide his joy and thanked the First Lady for her love and good heart.

“Coming at a time when the country is going through a lean patch owing to economic challenges and soaring prices, this donation could not have come at a better time,” he said.
“We do not know how best to thank the First Lady. May the mighty God richly bless her.”
Sheary Cripps Children’s Home has 38 children.

Mrs Janet Mhlanga, the matron at Fairways Old People’s Home in Eastlea, Harare said the assistance they got would go a long way in improving the diet of the elderly.

She said rising prices of commodities was affecting the day-to-day running of the institution and it was through the benevolence of people like Amai Mnangagwa that the home kept going.

“The elderly also need sweet things and we got luxuries like biscuits from our mother, the First Lady, it is indeed an early Christmas for them,” she said.

“Of the donation, we also got some pasta which seems to be a favourite with the elderly because most of them have problems with their teeth.

“The elderly deserve love and respect and giving them something to eat is part of honouring them.
“We thank the First Lady for leading by example and we hope corporates and other well-wishers will follow suit for the benefit of those in need.”

Mrs Mhlanga said giving a helping hand to those in need helped promote unity and build on hunhu/ubuntu.
