First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa’s philanthropic work through her Angel of Hope Foundation continues to charm many, with corporates and individuals across the country and beyond expressing keen interest in partnering the foundation.

The latest organisation to come on board is Earthgate, which has shown interest in donating medical supplies, blankets, sanitary wear and groceries to complement the Foundation’s ongoing humanitarian programmes.

The initiative, which is meant to complement Dr Mnangagwa’s efforts in supporting the needy, speaks volumes about how Mother Zimbabwe has touched many hearts through her non-partisan philanthropic work.

The support is expected to boost programmes already being undertaken by the First Lady through her Angel of Hope Foundation to cushion vulnerable groups across the country. Dr Mnangagwa expressed her gratitude, saying she was humbled by the thoughtful gesture, which will go a long way in assisting the needy.

“Thank you very much for coming forward and saying that you are happy with what I do.

“I want to sincerely thank you that you took the time to follow what I do and for showing genuine interest, and for that I am grateful,” she said.

As part of the distribution of assistance by the Angel of Hope Foundation, Dr Mnangagwa said the key thing is that whenever she goes out to carry out her work, she is personally present, regardless of the time, even at midnight, to ensure that everything is distributed fairly.

“We need to think more about others and that is what brought you to me. We are instilling a culture among our people that encourages sharing what we have with others,” she said. “I know this touches you deeply because, as women, we share a unique instinct. We are different from men in how we approach issues. We feel matters more deeply, and we carry other people’s concerns.”

Earthgate chief executive officer Ms Lucia Liu paid glowing tribute to the First Lady for her numerous humanitarian initiatives, saying the company is keen to complement her work, particularly initiatives that focus on women, the girl child, and children in general.

“I am happy to be working with the First Lady. I am proud because I feel that the First Lady is very kind, and she is like a mother to me. That makes me very happy,” she said.

“I have seen that the First Lady helps girls, women, and children. I would like to support her in helping the women, girls, and children of Zimbabwe.”

Special Presidential Adviser on Monitoring and Implementation of Government Projects and Programmes Dr Joram Gumbo said Earthgate was motivated to reach out by the First Lady’s consistent concern for the welfare of vulnerable groups.

“They were impressed by the work being done by the First Lady. They indicated that they believed Your Excellency would be pleased to receive the various items and goods they intend to donate.

“They have mining operations in the Midlands Province and expressed their desire to support these initiatives.

“They stated that they want to donate so that, as you continue with your outreach programmes, you can carry on doing exactly what you do,” he said.

Dr Gumbo said Earthgate pledged that they will continue to provide goods and other items to the First Lady religiously.

“The items they intend to donate include sanitary wear, medical supplies, groceries, and blankets,” he said.

Dr Mnangagwa’s hands-on approach has seen her moving around the country, donating resources she mobilises without discrimination, while ensuring that contributions from Angel of Hope Foundation partners and well-wishers reach the intended beneficiaries.
