Fit again Tuku plans Byo gig

Music superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi seems to have recovered from a health setback that affected some of his shows recently. He will be performing in Bulawayo on March 20 to compensate for a failed Valentines Day Eve show in the city.

The icon, who performed in Mutare with Peter Moyo at the weekend, assured Bulawayo fans that he would not let them down this time.

“We’re sorry for not coming last time. We couldn’t compromise Tuku’s health over anything as we had just come from a UK tour so the change of weather conditions affected him.

“The show is taking place on the 20th of March as he’s now fit,” his manager Sam Mataure said.

“I don’t want to say it’s a make-up show, it’s just that we had promised our fans there a show and we’re fulfilling that promise.”

He said they would perform with a full six-member band.

According to show organiser, Nkululeko Sibanda, they are finalising modalities to have Tuku share the Bulawayo stage with Dendera king – Sulumani “Sulu” Chimbetu.

“The March 20 show is being held to compensate for Tuku’s failed appearance at a show in Bulawayo which featured Ringo on February 13. His manager, Sam Mataure has made a commitment that they’ll be around to perform this time.

“We’re planning to have them come here a day before the show so as to give fans assurance,” Sibanda said.

He said they were still deliberating on the show’s venue though it would likely be held at the Large City Hall.

Tuku failed to perform with Ringo Madlingozi in Bulawayo as well as at another show in Harare which featured South Africa’s Liquideep due to ill health.
