POLICE have arrested five suspects in connection with a spate of armed robberies at Gunguhwe Shopping Centre in Siakobvu, Mashonaland West, in which property worth an estimated US$3 470 was stolen.
The suspects are Lloyd Mupedzanhamo (37), Emmanuel Baruti (33), Malven Mupedzanhamo (23), Shelton Heberson Mwayera (23) and Tatenda Murehwa (19).
In a statement on its X handle on Saturday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the robberies occurred on September 2 at around 1am.
The suspects allegedly armed themselves with axes before raiding three shops at the shopping centre, making off with cash, cellphones, bags, clothes and other valuables.
Police have since recovered US$46 and 41 Kwacha in cash, 14 cellphones, several clothing items, a balaclava, an axe, satchel bags and power banks from the suspects.
The recovery of the items has linked the five to the robberies, with police continuing investigations into the cases.
The ZRP urged members of the public with information that could assist investigations to approach their nearest police station.
