THE Local Organising Committee for the forthcoming 2024 Confederation of Schools Sport Association of Southern Africa (COSSASA) has confirmed that five countries will take part in the Games that get underway early next week in Bulawayo.
Bulawayo will play host to the Games and competition will be against Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, and Zambia across six different sporting disciplines. The Games are expected to run on August 26 to 28 at various venues.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday morning, marketing and publicity chairperson, David Simba said its all systems go and confirmed that the number of countries coming through allows for the Games to proceed.
“COSSASA demands that, at least there needs to be three countries participating, thereafter, if it’s less than that the games should not begin. What we can confirm to you is that the teams that will be participating are Zimbabwe, who will be based at Northlea High School, Lesotho, who will be housed at Townsend Girls High, Malawi will be hosted at Gifford High, Zambia and Eswatini will be at Founders High School so it gives us a total of five countries that will be coming through,” said Simba.
Team Zimbabwe is set to start camp on Thursday.
The official opening and closing ceremonies will be held at White City Stadium. Netball, athletics, football (finals) and volleyball (finals) will also take place at White City Stadium. Preliminary football games will be held at Gifford High School with Northlea hosting basketball matches.
Handball and volleyball preliminary matches are penciled in for St. Columbus’ High School. The Games were supposed to have athletics and ball games separately with Lesotho hosting athletics, however, they will now take place concurrently, all in Zimbabwe.
