A woman last week summoned five of her relatives to the Harare Civil Court accusing them of threatening to kidnap and kill her over a house she inherited from her late uncle. Marbo Sunday, who was adopted at the age of three by the accused’s father’s elder brother, said the five — Wellington, Irene, Charles, Takesure and Tafadzwa — were forcing her to remove their surname from all her particulars so that they could kick her out of the house she inherited. She was seeking a protection order against the five saying they were breaching her peace.
“I am living in fear because the five are in the habit of visiting my place of residence threatening to kidnap me and killing me if I don’t change my surname,” she said.
“I was adopted by my uncle at the age of three and he left his house in my name because we stayed together for 33 years before he died,” said Sunday.
She said the five never visited them while her uncle was alive, only to appear now because they wanted to kick her out of the house she inherited.
“I want the court to protect me because the five sometimes come to my house armed with knives threatening to stab me,” she said.
The five denied all the allegations against them by Sunday and accused her of lying to the court.
Magistrate, Ms Audrey Tarugarira granted the peace order in Sunday’s favour which bars the five from verbally and physically threatening her.
She ordered the five to keep peace towards Sunday at all times.
