A 45-YEAR-OLD suspected armed robber, who was part of a gang which assaulted a man who later died from the injuries he sustained, appeared in court yesterday.
Job Vambe, who was in the company of his accomplices who are still at large, raided Wellington Marongedze’s house where they assaulted him with iron bars and golf sticks.
He appeared before Harare magistrate, Simon Kandiyero, who remanded him in custody to today.
It is alleged that they forced entry into the house through the kitchen door.
They proceeded to Marongedze’s bedroom where he was asleep in the company of his wife Mavis Ndewere.
Vambe and his accomplices started assaulting Marongedze with iron bars and a golf stick all over the body. They were demanding cash and valuables.
One of them fired one shot into the roof, threatening to kill Marongedze.
They stole an cellphone from his trousers’ pocket.
They continued assaulting him, demanding cash, and he directed them to his vehicle, which was parked outside, where they took US$1 000 from the dashboard.
Vambe and his accomplices fled from the scene leaving the Marongedza seriously injured.
He was refereed to Parirenyatwa Hospital and was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit where he stayed until July 28, 2019, when he passed away due to the injuries sustained.
A spent cartridge was picked at the scene and was taken to CID Forensic Ballistics for examinations.
On June 7 this year, a Brescia pistol serial number 116914, was recovered after having been abandoned at a crime of scene in Chitungwiza.
It was sent to CID Forensic Ballistics for examinations.
The results of the examinations proved that the firearm was the one that was fired on July 19, 2019, at Marongedze’s house.
It matched the cartridge that was recovered at the scene and investigations prove that Vambe was the one who committed the offence, leading to his arrest.
