SOUTH African base Flatfoot Dance Company on Wednesday gave an inspirational dance workshop at Amakhosi Cultural Centre.
In attendance were aspiring dancers who got stimulating dance lessons from established and well travelled choreographers.
The Durban based dance company is in the country for the on going Intwasa Arts Festival where they gave a breathtaking performance with their “Late Thoughts,” dance presentation at Bulawayo Theatre, on Tuesday.
During the workshop, participants were taken through contemporary and hip hop dance lessons done in an enjoyable fashion.
In an interview Flatfoot artistic director and choreograph, Lliare Loots said they were impressed by the turn out and the desire shown by locals who took part in the event.
“We ran our workshop for two-three hours but the dancers never got tied. They have given their best to this seminar and we are going back with happy minds because our class was a huge success,’ she said.
The hip hop session proved popular among partakers who at one time could not allow the choreographers to end the session.
Participants were taught how to approach a stage and how to present their acts. Among the hip hop dances they were taught are Flat Rock, Top Rock, Indiana Step and C.C six steps.
The choreographic team showed good character in taking the participants through their pace and the workshop was full of fun and everyone who took part came out with a smile on their faces.
“I have learnt so much and I have been inspired. I am happy to have attended such a workshop and I encourage artistes and local fans to take advantage of this festival to improve their talents,’ said a participant identified as Nokuthemba “MaNya” Nyathi.
Loots thanked Zimbabweans for the hospitality and support they have given her group.
“We have loved our stay and we hope to come back because the people have been good to us. The fans were supportive and we are sad to be going back so soon,” she said.
Attending the dance clinic was the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe provincial arts manager, Mrs Charity Nyathi who enjoyed every minute of the lessons.
Workshop coordinator, Desmond Ntini thanked Flatfoot Dance Troop and participants alike for making the event a success.
