FLYSAFAIR landed at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport yesterday on its maiden flight from Johannesburg to Harare.

The touchdown marked the launch of a daily flight between Johannesburg and Harare and flights will soon begin operating between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said the launch of the new service will provide greater connectivity and convenience for travellers.

He said it will also contribute to the development of tourism, trade and investment, strengthening the region’s economic prospects.

“This year alone, we have received quite a number of new airlines flying into Zimbabwe. Further, the existing airlines have added more frequencies to their operations, with some even launching new routes within the country.

“Subsequently, we anticipate to launch additional airlines in the country to support the ongoing development of aviation infrastructure in Zimbabwe and the region,” said Minister Mhona.

“I have no doubt that the introduction of FlySafair will undoubtedly contribute to the overall growth in passenger numbers and help inculcate a flying culture.”

Minister Mhona also indicated that refurbishment of the RGMI Airport is expected to be completed by mid-2024.

“These achievements are not mere coincidences, but rather the Second Republic’s efforts to drive Zimbabwe towards becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030,” he said.
