Focus on helping communities, NGOs urged

Non-governmental organisations (NGO) should concentrate on helping communities undertake sustainable developmental projects rather than meddle in politics, a senior civil servant has said.

Addressing participants during the NGO Forum meeting held in Chiredzi on Monday, District Administrator Mr Lovemore Chisema said NGOs should take advantage of the new political dispensation to complete outstanding projects in the district.

“Government is racing with time towards improving the lives of the people in the first 100 days under the new administration led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” he said.

“We want all of us to take part in this noble initiative that aims at transforming the lives of our people. We must take projects in infrastructure development, social services, value addition and food security clusters as our main backdrop.” Mr Chisema challenged NGOs not to meddle in the politics.

“We continue to encourage you to operate transparently. We challenge you to carry your operations openly,” he said
