HE made his name on the pitch, and now he’s plotting a return, this time from the dugout.
Former Hwange, Bantu Rovers, and Black Mambas midfielder Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube is steadily building toward his coaching dream, currently working on acquiring his CAF B coaching licence in South Africa.
Now 39, Ncube enrolled for the course last month and is just two modules away from completing it.
He’s expected to graduate in August and his passion for the game remains as strong as ever.
“I started the course (CAF B) last month. We are left with two modules. We’re taking one module per week, and I think I’ll finish in August,” said the soft-spoken Ncube.
“I’m also willing to come back home and give back, to share the knowledge I’ve gained.”
Fokoza isn’t new to the coaching circuit.
He first earned his CAF C badge in 2016, studying alongside a host of former stars including Joel “Dubai” Luphahla, ex-Highlanders defender Gift Lunga Jr, former Warriors and Dynamos rock Thomas Sweswe, as well as Britto Gwere, Maronga Nyangela, Jack Mutandagari, Tawanda Marimo Chapungu, and Simba Makoni.
“I got my CAF C licence way back in 2016. But because Zimbabwe was suspended by CAF, I only managed to get accepted for the CAF B course here in Johannesburg,” said Ncube.
“We’ve been pushing with the likes of Esrom Nyandoro, but things hadn’t been falling into place. Now we’re hopeful we’ll take our CAF A badges next year in August.”
The coaching bug has clearly bitten Fokoza hard.
Last year, in his spare time, he worked as a match analyst for Platinum City Rovers under coach Tlou Segolela, a club competing in the lower tiers of South African football. But that wasn’t all, he also conducted one-on-one training sessions with top flight stars like Thapelo Maseko of Mamelodi Sundowns and Tobias Van Merwe of Sekhukhune United. − COSAFA.com
