An 18-year old teenager has been sentenced to 175 hours of community service for fondling a 34-year-old primary school teacher in a beerhall.
Tinashe Mafusirwa pleaded guilty to indecent assault when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje on Tuesday.
Mr Mambanje considered that Mafusirwa was a first offender who had shown contrition by admitting to the charge.
He warned him not to commit a similar offence in the next five years as it would attract a custodial sentence.
The facts are that on May 7 at Kuwadzana 2 Shopping Centre, at around 8pm, the woman was drinking beer with her friends. Mafusirwa approached the woman and fondled her. When asked why he was acting in the manner he did, he turned violent and assaulted the woman.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Mafusirwa’s arrest.
Mr Lawrence Gangarahwe prosecuted.
Another teenager was arraigned before Mbare magistrate Ms Bianca Makwande, facing similar charges.
Crispen Nyamudahondo (19) is accused of fondling a 28-year-old woman while she was dancing with her husband in a bar in Mbare.
Nyamudahondo denied the allegations and Ms Makwande remanded him to June 18. Prosecutor Ms Revai Mudozori alleged that on June 7 around 9pm, the woman was dancing with her husband and Nyamudahondo allegedly fondled her buttocks.
It is alleged that he then threatened to assault the woman when she protested before the matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.
