adminThe Court heard that on April 5 and at 10:40pm Chirengarenga was drinking at Bullies Sports Bar in the same area when a 27-year-old female bar attendant walked past him.
He fondled her against her will. Although the woman protested, the determined Chirengarenga rose from where he was seated and followed her before fondling her again.
This time, the woman pushed him away. This did not go down well with Chirengarenga who became angry and punched the woman knocking her to the floor.
He then dragged her downstairs where he head-butted and kicked her. Chirengarenga only stopped assaulting the woman after the doorman restrained him. Chirengarenga was convicted on his own plea to charges of assault and indecent assault.
In sentencing him, Mr Jarabini took into account that he was facing a serious offence that called for a deterrent sentence.
“You fondled and assaulted her, an act which is degrading and the courts do not condone such kind of behaviour,” said Mr Jarabini.
“There is a need to send a correct message to would-be offenders so that they can desist from committing such offences.”
Mr Lovet Muringwa prosecuted.
