‘Food aid distribution apolitical’

George Maponga Masvingo Bureau
Chiefs’ Council president Chief Fortune Charumbira has dismissed allegations of politicisation of food aid distribution in the country, urging donors to continue providing humanitarian assistance to Zimbabwe.
Chief Charumbira said Zimbabwe followed a water-tight and transparent food aid distribution model, saying allegations of partisan distribution were merely political statements.

Speaking at the handover of maize and peas donated by the Japanese government through the World Food Programme in Masvingo West last Friday, Chief Charumbira said food aid distribution committees were chaired by implementing partners. “We always make it a point that the implementing partner chairs the food distribution committee in any area for the sake of transparency,” he said.
