A STAUNCH football fan was murdered in Chinhoyi Monday morning.

He was killed close to the Methodist Church in the Hunyani Section.

Muranyadzi Mahwine (40) was found lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds.

He had attended a Division Two match between Chinhoyi Rangers and Alaska Smelter on Sunday afternoon.

This is the second murder, next to the Methodist Church, after a woman’s body was found along a stream last week.

A woman, who lives in the neighbourhood, told H-Metro that she heard Mahwine screaming and begging for his life.

“I heard him screaming in agony at around 11pm telling his assailants that he had no money.

“But, there was nothing I could do as I feared for my life.”

She said police details then kept guard over the body the whole night.

A resident, Michael Machingauta, pleaded with the police to increase patrols in the area at night.

“The place has become a hotspot for muggings and murder and we beg the police to patrol the area throughout the night,” said Machingauta.
