Football shirt prices reach record high

THE average cost of a Premier League replica shirt has passed £70 for the first time this season.

Nine of the Premier League’s 20 clubs now charge £80 or more for a standard adult replica shirt, while another three charge at least £70. Five top flight clubs are charging at least £60 for junior shirts and another nine charge at least £50.

The average cost of a replica adult top across all four divisions of English football is now £57.43, the highest on record. The average Premier League shirt, however, has risen to an eye-watering £72.60. That’s up from an average of £47.40 a decade ago.

Had Premier League shirt prices risen in line with inflation during that time they would cost £63.04 today, almost a tenner less than the current average. Football shirts across all divisions have risen in-line with inflation, however, and would cost £57.67 each — 24p less than the current average.

Chelsea and Tottenham have the most expensive shirts in English club football this season. Their standard adult replica shirts cost £84.99 and £85.00 each respectively, which is the same price as the England national team top.

They also both charge £124.99 and £125.00 for the “authentic” replica tops, which more closely resemble what the players wear on the pitch.

At £64.99, Chelsea also have the division’s most expensive junior replica shirt. Spurs’ equivalent is £55.00. Seven Premier League clubs are charging £80.00 for their standard adult replica shirts — Arsenal, Aston Villa, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United.

Four clubs are charging £60.00 for their junior tops — Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, and West Ham United. Sheffield Wednesday have the most expensive adult replica top outside of the top flight. The Owls are charging fans £69.00 to wear their team’s shirt this season. — Mirror.
