ZIMBABWE is preparing to stage the Regional Footgolf Open in Victoria Falls from November 20 to 23, with organisers confident of delivering a memorable competition despite financial hurdles.
The Zimbabwe Footgolf Association (ZFA) had initially planned a five-day event but trimmed it to three due to budget constraints. Even so, excitement is building as regional participation grows.
ZFA vice president Senzele Ndlovu said preparations are well on track, and three countries have already confirmed their attendance.
“The preparations for our regional tournament are at an advanced stage. South Africa, Zambia and Namibia have confirmed their participation, but we are expecting more countries as it is an open tournament,” she said.
Ndlovu added that the golf course has already been booked, marking a key milestone in their planning.
The association recently held its inaugural Zimbabwe Open Footgolf Championship, which served as a qualifier for the regional tournament. Sixty-six players drawn from all 10 provinces took part in that competition, the first in ZFA’s three-year history, and it was hailed as a success.
All 66 national competitors will represent Zimbabwe in Victoria Falls after qualifying through that event.
Ndlovu said the regional tournament isn’t just about competition but growth.
“We are not only going to compete but also to learn skills from other footgolfers so that we can grow as a sport,” she said.
