condolence to the Mudenge family following the death of Higher and Tertiary Education Minister Dr Isack Stanslaus Gorerazvo Mudenge last Thursday.
The House of Assembly also observed a minute of silence on Tuesday in honour of the late minister.
Minister Mudenge was declared a national hero and buried at the National Heroes’ Acre on Monday.
In a statement, the ministry lauded Minister Mudenge for his stint as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, Deputy Minister Rabson Makhula, secretary Ambassador Joey Bimha and the entire staff learnt with shock and profound grief and sorrow, the sudden and untimely death of Dr Stan Mudenge, the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education and former Minister of Foreign Affairs.”
“The minister recalls and will forever cherish, the zeal and statemanly diligence with which the late Dr Mudenge executed his duties as the country’s Foreign Minister from 1995 to 2005 and before that, in his capacities as the ministry’s permanent secretary between 1980 and 1985, and subsequently as the Permanent Representative to the Zimbabwe Permanent Mission to the UN in New York from 1986 to 1990.”
The ministry described Dr Mudenge as a true nationalist, dear father, accomplished historian and academic, educationist and polished diplomat.
“As his family and the Zimbabwean nation mourn Dr Mudenge’s passing on, may we all take solace in the knowledge that the noble ideals for which he fought steadfastly, among them a free and just world, and equal opportunities for all people, including their right to an empowering education, will continue to guide and inspire present and future generations in Zimbabwe and beyond.”
