Foreign tours boost my career: Oliver Keith

Rumbidzai Mhlanga, Sunday Life Reporter

South Africa-based model cum comedian Oliver Siamuloboka popularly known as Oliver Keith or NaJesca has managed to fit in as a comic artiste over the years and will soon be having his fourth tour in the United Kingdom.

For the past four years the 33-year-old comedian has been acquiring more knowledge through traveling to different countries where he gets to rub shoulders with other artistes and media personalities who are at the top of their game.

Keith, who has been trending on social media platforms through his comic character NaJesca says he chose the female character as a way of appreciating Zimbabwean women since he was raised by almost all the mothers in the society.

“I started comedy about four years ago but I was always passionate about acting hence I ventured into the outer ego NaJesca as it is a character depicting Zimbabwean mothers or women. I play well as this character because I was raised by almost all Zimbabwean mothers as it takes a village to raise a child, being an actor is broad, I can play any role that I’m given but I chose this one in particular because I knew it would appeal more to Zimbabweans,” he said.

The comedian said traveling has made him grow.

“I have toured a number of African countries, United Kingdom as well as the USA and the purpose is always the same, to entertain and have fun with the people who have made us into celebrated artistes. We are artistes because of the people, therefore we need to go to the ends of the earth to entertain and meet them.

“To become better one has to learn from others, especially from those who do things differently from what you are used to. I take every tour or performance as an opportunity to better myself. I do not have “fans” but I make friends. Like every other tour I have had I am excited about the one I will have on 19 October and I expect to learn a lot and entertain everyone who will attend,” he said.

As someone who learns from other people Keith is keen to impact the knowledge he has to others.

“I am a part time lecturer at Fingers Modelling School where I graduated. The classes we run are such an incredible empowerment as they equip one into being the best they can be. They set you apart from being ordinary to being world class.

“To someone who is still trying to pave their way to the top I say always perfect your art, don’t give people mediocrity, invest in yourself as an artiste and brand through learning, and being open minded. Do not try to be someone else but be yourself and you’ll go far.”
