adminthe call yesterday after a Chinese delegation from Anhui Province paid a courtesy call on him in Harare. The visit by the delegation follows Minister Mushohwe’s visit to Anhui Province last December where he invited the Chinese to explore investment opportunities in Manicaland.
“We need investors in power generation, especially small hydro-electric power plants, because we have many rivers in the province,” said Governor Mushohwe. “We also need investors in agriculture, mining and commerce.”
Governor Mushohwe said one of the biggest investments in Manicaland was the Chisumbanje Ethanol Plant, a joint venture between Arda, Green Fuels and the Brazilian government.
He said the Chinese diamond mining company, Anjin, which hails from Anhui Province, proved a good investor and was recently given more concessions by the ZMDC.
“Besides mining, there other vast opportunities for business in Manicaland.
“We also need an automobile assembly plant, solar power plant, electronic gadgets and cellphone plants,” said Mushohwe.
Head of the Chinese delegation Mr Tian Wei Qian, who is the vice-chairman of the Anhui People’s Political Consultative Conference, expressed his gratitude to Minister Mushohwe for inviting them.
“I now have better understanding of the relationship between Chinese and Zimbabwean people. I used to visit Uganda and they — like you — appreciated Chinese support even before they were independent,” said Mr Tian.
