women – who had duped her into believing that they wanted to change South African Rand into United States dollars.
Prisca Kangoma (28) was duped into believing that the two women had R10 000 at a lodge in Hillside.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau yesterday said the two women approached Kangoma near Eastgate Shopping Mall.
“They hired a taxi to Hillside and got into one of the rooms at the lodge,” he said.
A few minutes later one of the suspects went out saying she wanted to buy drinks but returned in the company of a man.
He pointed a gun at Kangoma and ordered her to surrender all her valuables, police said.
She surrendered US$1 410 and a Nokia cellphone before she bolted out of the room and called for help.
“The two women suspects lied to the people who came to help that Kangoma had a misunderstanding with her husband while pointing at their male accomplice,” said Insp Sabau.
No one intervened resulting in Kangoma running to a nearby bus stop where she informed five men of the robbery. The robbers fled and the men gave chase and caught one of the female suspects. They recovered US$1 290 and a police report was made. – CR.
