Pfumbidzayi has been serving a seven-year jail term for criminal abuse of duty under the Criminal Law (Codification Reform) Act.

In April, Pfumbidzayi through her lawyer, Mr Andrew Muvirimi of Muvirimi and Associates sought for bail pending her appeal against both conviction and sentence at the High Court.

Pfumbidzayi and former chief executive Peter Chikumba are accused of swindling the airline of millions of dollars in one of Zimbabwe’s biggest corporate fraud scandals.

Air Zimbabwe lost nearly US$10 million between 2009 and 2013 in an aviation insurance fraud described by a magistrate as ‘pre-planned’ by its top executives who dodged laid-down procurement procedures.

The High Court on Wednesday released Chikumba on US$2 000 bail and in granting the order, Justice Joseph Martin Mafusire instructed Chikumba to surrender title deeds to his Borrowdale home and report to police once a week.
