Former ambassador’s wife dies

Former Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Malaysia Ambassador Lucas Tande Tavaya’s wife, has died. She was 69. Mrs Christina Tavaya died on Wednesday at West End Hospital after battling asthma for a long period. Ambassador Tavaya said the death of his wife was a great loss to the family.

“She worked with me during my 13 years of ambassadorial duties in different countries such as Kenya, China and Malaysia,” he said.
Born at Morgenster hospital in 1944 in Masvingo, Mrs Tavaya grew up in Gokwe and later trained as a nurse.

She later went for further training in Zurich, Switzerland where she graduated as an anaesthetist. In 1968 Mrs Tavaya married ambassador Tavaya and joined her husband in Tanzania where he was studying.

From 1989 to 2009 Mrs Tavaya supported her husband, who was an ambassador in several countries.
Ambassador Tavaya represented Zimbabwe in Australia, Czec Republic, Kenya, China and Malaysia before retiring in 2009.

Mrs Tavaya is survived by her husband, three children and six grandchildren.
Mourners are gathered at her Chisipite home at number 19 Dover Road in Harare.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
