FORMER Chicken Inn head coach Prince Matore is reportedly on the verge of joining Zifa Central Region Division One seasoned campaigners Kwekwe United to be part of their technical team.
Matore was shown the exit at Gamecocks at the end of last season together with his then assistant coach Farai Tawarechera who is now the head coach of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League new boys Arenel Movers.
The two coaches guided Chicken Inn to a seventh place finish after amassing 49 points, 17 adrift from eventual league winners Ngezi Platinum Stars.
An impeccable source said Matore is tipped to be part of the Kwekwe United coaching staff. “He (Matore) was recently seen with members of the Kwekwe United technical team whom he is set to join without fail,” said the source.
Contacted for a comment Matore could neither confirm nor deny the reported development saying he is in his hometown Chegutu and enjoying ‘time-out’ from coaching. “Remember I was born and bred in Chegutu. So, I’m home enjoying my mini sabbatical. If something concrete comes out I will update you,” said Matore.
Matore, a CAF A licence holder, has over the years worked closely with veteran coach Joey Antipas as his lieutenant.
When Antipas joined Chicken Inn, he brought Matore as his assistant in 2014.
The pair was in charge of the Simbisa Brands-bankrolled side when the Gamecocks won their first ever league title in 2015, which saw them play in the prestigious 2016 Caf Champions League where they were booted out by eventual winners Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the preliminary round.
Antipas and Matore even left Chicken Inn together for South Africa’s AmaZulu in 2016before returning to the Gamecocks at the beginning of 2018 after parting ways with Usuthu in 2017.
Antipas is back at the helm of Gamecocks technical department and is assisted by ex-CAPS United coach Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi and club legend Guide Goddard.
Antipas, an old-timer, who also won the league title with Motor Action in 2010 and also boasts of successful coaching stints with the senior national soccer team.-@FungaiMuderere
