FORMER Bulawayo councillor Alderman Rodney Jele has been denied bail and remanded in custody to September 10 in connection with the alleged US$52 000 scam involving Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu.

Bulawayo magistrate Mr Isheunesu Matova dismissed Ald Jele’s bail application, sighting the gravity of the case, resulting in his continued detention pending his next court appearance.

He is facing allegations alongside Clr Ndlovu and Clr Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu in a case involving an alleged US$52 000 extortion scam.

Two other councillors, Mxolisi Mahlangu and Ashton Mhlanga, implicated in the case are due to appear today.

The State alleges that the accused were involved in soliciting money from a complainant, with the matter now before the courts.
