Former Gweru United player Rolly Jalasi dies

He was 74.
One of the shrewd referees in the 70s is father  to the late Pisa Pisa player Allan and grandfather  to former Caps United midfielder Gift   Makoloni.
Family spokesman, Tichaona Richman Sigauke broke the news yesterday morning.

“Our father, our mentor Rolly Josephus Jalasi collapsed and died on Monday at his home.
“During his time he endeared himself with his contribution to the game with a never-say-die charisma that inspired his son Allan.
“As I speak some of his grandsons are playing the game and such was his influence which we will miss as we bid him farewell,” said Sigauke who is married to one of the two surviving children Florence.

The second surviving member is Sally.
Born on the 18th of May 1937, Jalasi was one of the pioneer players of what later rose to be the most followed soccer team in Gweru and upon retirement took up the whistle as a referee.

When he retired, Jalasi remained involved in the game as a member of the referees’ committee.
His late son Allan played for  Gweru United and later State House Tornadoes.

Sigauke said Jalasi will be buried at Mtapa Cemetery on Tuesday.
Mourners are gathered at 3230 Lavendale Road, Nashville.
