Former Harare mayor Muchadei Masunda recently appeared at the Harare magistrates court facing charges of indecently assaulting his client, Ms Ropafadzo Sibusiso Chidawu (34).
The former mayor denied the charges during the previous sitting and proceeded to make an application for discharge at the close of the State’s case.

Harare provincial magistrate Mrs Ayanda Dhliwayo deferred the matter to October 4 for ruling.

The State submitted that the complainant is a beneficiary in the Oliver Mandishona Chidawu Trust and the accused was appointed legal consultant and second trustee of the same trust.

The court heard that on August 4, 2023, Ms Chidawu went to Masunda’s workplace to discuss some issues concerning the trust, upon entering the office Masunda expressed unwillingness to entertain her.

It is alleged that Masunda stood up from where he was seated, advanced to Ms Chidawu, and indecently grabbed her by the waist twice with both his hands.

This act did not go down well with the complainant and Ms Chidawu later reported the case to police.

Ms Chidawu did not suffer any physical injuries and was not medically examined.
