Former MDC-T MP back in court over maintenance

Masvingo Correspondent
FORMER MDC-T House of Assembly Member for Masvingo West, Mr Tachiona Mharadze was yesterday back in court after defaulting on payment of maintenance for a child he had with his former wife.Mharadze was convicted on his own plea of guilty when he appeared before Masvingo magistrate Ms Dorothy Mwanyisa.

He was however lucky to escape custodial sentence as he was cautioned and discharged after Ms Mwanyisa noted that he had rushed to pay $400 soon after receiving the summons to appear in court.

This was the second time that the former legislator defaulted paying the maintenance as he was brought to the courts for the same offence on 11 January this year.

His former wife, Ms Tiriveyi Round (37) dragged him to court after he had defaulted for six months. Prosecutor,Ms Shamiso Masokovere said sometime last year Mharadze was ordered to pay $150 a month for the upkeep of his child with Ms Round but failed to do so.

This resulted in him accumulating $900 arrears. The court heard that Mharadze then paid the arrears before defaulting again.
He rushed to the bank and deposited $350 into Ms Round’s bank account before paying the $50 balance in court.
