Former MDC-T MP jailed for theft

Former MDC-T Buhera South legislator Tangwara Matimba who was convicted of theft of trust property after he sold a house on behalf of a couple living in the United States and pocketed $95,000, will spend the next two years behind bars.Matimba (46), who owns Property Hopes Real Estate, was convicted by regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya after a fully contested trial.

Mujaya sentenced Matimba to seven years in prison but suspended two years on condition of good behaviour. Another three years were suspended on condition Matimba restitutes $95 000 to the complainant on or before March 7 this year.

In passing the sentence Mujaya said Matimba’s moral blameworthiness was high considering that he is a former Member of Parliament.
He added that Matimba as a businessman committed the offence out of greed not need.
